A Truly Smashing Birthday

The teenager, about 17 years old, came trotting out of the video game store grinning from ear to ear, holding a large bag in one hand & a smaller bag in the other. He had received his paycheck from work the day before his birthday, and decided to buy himself a Wii U and a copy of the new Super Smash Bros. for himself as a present. After checking his wallet, he noticed that he had enough money leftover to buy something extra.

Going back into the store, the young lad noticed some figures on the shelves in the back; curious, he asked an employee, "What are those?" The woman who was stocking the shelves with these figures replied, "Oh, these? These are called amiibos." "I've never heard of those," replied the teenager. "What do they do?" "Well, there's a small area on the left side of the Wii U Gamepad. When you tap the amiibo to that area while you're playing Super Smash Bros., it'll appear on the screen as a Figure Player. You can team up with your amiibo, fight against it, or have it fight other opponents!""Hm, sounds interesting," said the young man. "How much are they?" The woman replied, "They're only 13 dollars each. There's going to be an amiibo for every character in the Smash Bros. roster! Or... that's what I've been told."

But it looked as if that response fell on deaf ears. The teenager was fixated on one of the "amiibos," as they were called. This particular figure had blue hair, blue clothes, and a sword that looked as if it were used to slay dragons more powerful than any other. The boy asked, "Who's this character?" The woman replied, "That's Marth, one of the more rare amiibos." He started getting excited. He'd heard about the rarity of this figure before; to see it in the store was the chance of a lifetime. "Rare, you say...? I assume it costs the same as all the others?" "Mhm!" replied the woman. "If you're interested in it, you'd better buy it now. It's the last one in our supply, and we won't be restocking it for a while." With a devious grin on his face, the boy replied, "Consider it purchased." He quickly picked the blue-haired figure up, took it to the register, and paid the 13 dollars required. As he drove home that day, he looked at his purchases and thought, "Haha... Happy birthday to me."
